THIS EXHIBITION TOOK PLACE IN AUTUMN 1997

| In Beyond the Wall 26.36° the Netherlands Architecture Institute gives a survey of the work of the orginally Polish architect Daniel Libeskind. Libeskind (1946) has been in the international vanguard as a designer and theorist for over a decade. He teaches at a large number of universities. Internationally numerous publications by his hand have seen the light and his work has been published in many languages. From the disciplines of music, painting and mathematics he is moving towards architecture. After many years of working as a teacher and theorist only, he is at present also an active, 'building' architect.
Special about this Libeskind exhibition is the fact that an approach has been opted for in which a survey of Daniel Libeskind's work is given in a labyrinth designed by him for the occasion and made in close co-operation with Cecil Balmond of the Ove Arup engineer's firm. This allows the visitor a three-dimensional experience of the Libeskind architecture, in a way which is not possible when using the traditional ways of presenting architecture only. The exhibition can be visited in the NAI Large Hall from 6 September until 23 November next. The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication (by NAI Publishers) of two books by and about Daniel Libeskind: Unfolding, a unique 'book object', consisting of 9 books (NLG 99.50) and Fishing from the Pavement (Dfl 39.50). Both publications are in English. Ole Bouman (editor-in-chief of Archis Magazine) wrote an article about the exhibition and the work of Daniel Libeskind. |
