ARCHITECTURE OF CONSEQUENCE LAUNCHED
The NAi introduces its innovation agenda Architecture of Consequence with a book, an international exhibition and a congress. Architecture of Consequence articulates the need for a shift from spatial to social tasks. The notion that architecture should be an expression of its time or of the might of its commissioners pales into insignificance when compared to its value in resolving societal issues. OPEN CITY - DESIGNING COEXISTENCE
NAI Rotterdam, Gallery 1: September 24 2009 - January 10 2010
The main exhibition of the 4th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam is Open City: Designing Coexistence in the Netherlands Architecture Institute. The NAI is literally opening up to the city of Rotterdam during the 4th IABR with a new and direct link between the street and the biggest of the exhibition galleries. Read more...

On November 5th, media architect and researcher Mark Shepard will deliver a lecture within the context of the Open City Event Program of the 4th IABR. Shepard studies the influence of new media and network technologies on architecture and the city. Read more...

IABR OPEN PODIUM: WITH MARK SHEPARD

Every Friday afternoon, within the context of the IABR Open City Event program, a local 'cultural ambassador' will act as the host or hostess of a performance, presentation or discussion relating to the theme of the week. Movie, several dates in November
The IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam) is the world’s biggest festival for film documentaries. At the request of the IABR, the IDFA compiled a special series of film documentaries about the city, which will be shown at the Biennale. Read more...

VPRO FILM 'I AM GURGAON: THE NEW CITY IN INDIA'
Movie, November 21st 2009, 12.00 hrs
On November 21st, the VPRO Tegenlicht documentary ‘I am Gurgaon: The new city in India’, directed by Marije Meerman, will be screened in the NAI. The screening is a co-production of the VPRO and the 4th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR). Read more...

Abel Cahen

ABEL CAHEN'S OPEN CITY
The NAI recently acquired the archives of architect and structuralist Abel Cahen (1934). This includes his graduation project from the 1960s, ‘Confrontation with a configuration’. The current debate about the Open City has made this study very topical again. That is why it can be viewed in the Open Forum of IABR4 until 10 January 2010. Read more...
